So the engine will get up to temperature and run normally, but the gauge won't move above the point shown and I don't have any heat. The truck also over heated twice this week because I didn't have enough antifreeze in the system. Help? 2000 2WD Chevy Blazer with the 4300

stuck thermostat?

Thermostat is stuck open. Because it failed.

Thermostat.
broken or simply popped out.

Low antifreeze can also cause low temps iirc, did you already refill?
And as others mentioned, check the thermostat.

You're likely correct. Any idea if a GM 3800 thermostat would fit a 4300?

I have indeed.

The duke is correct - thermostat.

So it's not getting hot enough yet it's overheating? ...whaaaaa?

It did overheat because the engine was frozen due to lack of antifreeze. I've fixed that. Now the engine get's hot but the gauge and my heater dont.

Perhaps the low antifreeze is related to the thermostat breaking. Were you able to find any leaks?

wouldn't bet on it.

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!1!11 The plastic sides of the radiator have leaked since I bought the truck over a year ago! I really need to buy a new one but don't really want to spend the money or time on it.

Few things IMO:
1.) You have poor heat because there's a good chance your engine is not getting up to temp
2.) As ADM said, check the thermostat first, especially since it's cheap to replace
3.) You said the engine froze. Do you mean the coolant mixture froze solid? If so, take a flashlight and inspect everything you can see with the cooling system.

Coolant froze solid somewhere in the engine. My car wasn't prepared to fight the sub zero temps we are experiencing. The radiator has had a small leak in the plastic sides since I got the truck, no other leaks that I can see though so all the freeze plugs are good.

Well there's your problem. Overheating it prolly killed the thermostat.

"Freeze plug" is kind of a BS term. The plugs are not there for frost protection. They are pressed in core plugs. You can freeze up and crack a block with the plugs in just doin' their thing.
I lost a water pump last year to poor coolant performance. If everything looks good, great. It doesn't hurt to be sure.

You're on the verge of cracking the block without antifreeze if you haven't done it already. One is a lot cheaper than the other. Hopefully the rad is fucked, because otherwise the block isn't holding pressure and its behaving like a blown head gasket....which shows on the temp gauge as overheating.

Hopefully freezing and overheating didn't crack the block or a head. You really should replace that radiator and thermostat. You may also have leaking intake gaskets.
